Intern Profile
Florence is a first-generation Californian and aspiring medical doctor. Her greatest passions are art, dance and studio, and public service, and loves learning foreign languages. She applied for the Global Art Exhibit's 2009 summer internship because it offers the perfect amalgamation of her interests; she will be teaching health classes to Burmese refugee children at the Parami School in Mae Sot, Thailand, then helping to coordinate an art exhibition in Hong Kong this summer.
Florence is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of Neurobiology at Harvard College. Apart from her studies, she is a member of the varsity sailing team and enjoys playing intramural volleyball and crew. She is a co-director and tutor for the Phillips Brooks House Association's Chinatown Citizenship program, which offers free American civics classes and naturalization assistance to Chinese immigrants in the greater Boston area.
After graduating from college, anticipated in 2011, she hopes to take part in Teach for America or the Peace Corps for two years, then continue her studies in medical school.
